Divorce certificate document in Korea

I think there are many foreign people who get divorced with Korean spouses. To get the divorce certificate, first of all, it's very difficult and not easy to find out what kind of document you need to translate and legalize it for your next marriage or parental and custody of your children in your country. It's frustrated for me.

Don't make a same mistake I did.
From the Korean court, you received the confirmation letter like below. ('이혼확인서', Below is translated)

However, it is still questioning on your marriage status. Because in the box, it is written 'This certified copy of writen confirmation shall become invalid after passing 3 months from the date delivered or served'. So you may be married status or divorce. It is hard to tell from this 확인서. You needs an official document which proves your status is divorced firmly and legally by Korean government.

I found the way you can prove legally that you got completely divorced.
Go to any Gu-Cheong(구청) and tell the information that you want to have 'Marriage relation certificate(혼인관계증명서)'.

Before you go to Gu-Cheong(구청), prepare the above letter which is issued by court.(Korean version, 이혼확인서)
Because you need to prove who you are, and why you ask for the document(혼인관계증명서). You need your Korean ID too.

When you explain why you want to have your Korean ex-spouse's 'marriage relation certificate(혼인관계증명서), they will give you the application form(신청서) you fill out. You will pay \1,000.(2018)

Your name, divorce date and your ID is shown on the document officially. Now you'd better translate and legalize this document(혼인관계증명서).

If your country accepts Apostille, you don't need to go your contry embassy for authentication.

To get the Apostille in Seoul, please go to Jong-ro (종구 종로 5길 68 코리안리빌딩 4층) before 2pm. After 2:30, you have to go here again to receive the Apostilled document. \1,000 for processing fee.

Bring two documents(1. divorce certificate from court and 2 Korean ex-spouse's 혼인관계증명서) which are translated and legalized, to your country or the country you want to go and prove your marriage status.
